The Rise of Lo- fi Content

The desire for an aesthetic Instagram feed is not completely gone, but most users won’t care anymore about a "perfect" presence on social media in 2023.

So, what is lo-fi content?

Lo-fi is short for “low fidelity”

It is a style of social media content that is taken on a mobile device, is raw and unpolished, and is all about keeping it simple and authentic. It appears to be done quickly and spontaneously, but it is actually the result of a well planned and smart social strategy.

Hi-fi is short for "high fidelity."

It is a style of professional video content that has a whole production behind it and will be used for campaigns and content across marketing channels.

According to an article on YPulse:

  • 79% of 13- to 36-year-olds are tired of seeing polished images in advertising

  • 88% of people like it when others showcase their flaws and imperfections

With polished content being a thing of the past, users want to see authenticity in their social feeds, and brands are creating and sharing more lo-fi content through their accounts or

using user generated content.

How can a brand use lo-fi content as part of its strategy?

1. Jump on trends.

Make sure your social team is keeping an eye on the latest trends.

They should jump on trends that fit the brand's voice and goals.

Ask yourself: Does this trend fit my brand? Will your community find it interesting and engaging?

2. UGC (user generated content)

This type of content is subcategory of lo-fi content and comes from individuals who create original content. For example:

A day in the life of a content creator shows what she/he does, but in between, they show how they use your product. So your product is not the main thing in the video, but It will be mentioned and tagged. This creates trust and authenticity among followers.

3. Humanize your brand.

Using a face in front of the camera creates authentic content and humanizes a brand.

Overall, Lo-Fi Reels / TikTok have a higher engagement rate, effectiveness rate, average video views, and average reach compared to Hi-Fi content and will perform better than content that's a higher quality production.

How can we help?

We believe that successful lo-fi content is rooted in an intentional, thoughtful social media strategy where every video you share should relate to your brand, goals and deliver value to your audience.
